      The Chesterfield Board of Supervisors recently approved a request by Dominion to create a $50 million landfill in the county for fly ash, a by-product created by burning coal at the company’s electricity-generating plants.

Midlothian woman arrested for child abuse
      A woman who took her young daughter to a physician to be examined came under scrutiny herself after she showed signs of intoxication. Employees from the physician’s office called police on Feb. 23 after they witnessed Caroline E. Fitzgerald, 42, of the 14000 block of Cove Ridge Terrace, get into her car with the child and drive away.

      A Sandston man is facing charges after being involved in two separate motor vehicle crashes along Interstate 95 on March 9. At about 6:18 p.m., a Virginia State Police trooper responded to the scene of the first accident on the southbound Chippenham Parkway ramp to southbound I-95.

      A Chester man has been charged by Virginia State Police in a road-rage incident on Interstate 95 in Chesterfield on March 5, according to the Richmond Times-Dispatch.

Woman’s body found
      Police recovered the body of 40-year-old Kelly D. Catalano from a small island in Swift Creek near the Interstate 95 bridge at about noon on March 11. A boater in the area discovered the body and contacted police.

      A man convicted of fatally shooting a father of two during a failed robbery attempt has been sentenced to 147 years in prison, according to the Richmond Times-Dispatch.

Petition circulating to save outdoor programs
      An instructor for the Chesterfield Parks and Recreation Department’s outdoor programs has launched an effort to save funding for summer camps, hikes, paddling instruction, nature classes and school outreach. Many of these programs are scheduled to be eliminated due to funding cuts in the FY11 budget (starting July 1).
