Letters to the Editor policy
Letters to the Editor can be
e-mailed to letters@ChesterfieldObserver.com, mailed to P.O. Box 1616,
Midlothian, VA 23113 or faxed to (804) 744-3269.
All letters should adhere to the
following guidelines:
- Letters must include the writer's name, daytime phone
number and home address for verification. However, phone numbers and home
addresses will not be published. Any letter submitted without a phone number
and address will not be published.
- All letters should be typed. Letters submitted in
longhand may not be published.
- Letters
may be edited for clarity, grammar and space.
The Chesterfield Observer will
not publish letters that:
- Address state, national or international issues unless
reported in the Chesterfield Observer. All letters should address issues
pertinent to Chesterfield County.
- Are addressed to parties other than the newspaper's
editor.
- Are deemed libelous or in bad taste.
- Endorse
a candidate for office. Letters responding to news stories that may include
endorsement may be run with editing.
Letters to the editor are
published on a space-available basis and at the editor's discretion. The editor
reserves the right to withhold publication of a letter for any reason. The
editor also reserves the right to add an editor's comment at the end of the
letter if the editor believes portions of the published letter may be inaccurate
or misleading.
