Richmond officer sues two Chesterfield gun shops seeking $1.2 million over accident
     A sergeant in the Richmond Sheriff's office is suing two Chesterfield gun shops for an accidental shooting two years ago when he shot himself in the hand. He alleges the holster is to blame.

Northrop Grumman breaks ground
"Meadowville is about to explode"
     The largest single capital investment in the county's history breaks ground this week. Northrop Grumman Corp.'s new enterprise, valued at $125 million, will take 28 acres of the county's Meadowville Technology Park off I-295 in eastern Chesterfield County.

Planning Commissioners have more than a full plate
     The busy Chesterfield Planning Department is filling up the planning commission's agenda, exceeding the 15-case limit for each meeting because of deferrals. Last Tuesday the commission was scheduled to hear 26 cases but 14 were deferred for 30-90 days.

North Carolina developer takes on Cloverleaf Mall
Project will require continuing county subsidy
     Chesterfield County has found another developer to tackle Cloverleaf Mall. Crosland Inc., a Charlotte, N.C. real estate firm, signed an agreement with the county last week to redevelop the Cloverleaf Mall site and several adjacent parcels, totaling 83 acres at Chippenham Parkway and Midlothian Turnp

     A six-year veteran of the Toastmasters organization in Chesterfield won a regional speaking contest for the second year in a row.

Four top teachers
     Maranda Rooks, fourth-grade teacher at Evergreen Elementary, gets a hug after being named one of four Chesterfield County Public Schools' recipients in Wal-mart's 11th annual Teacher of the Year award. Each received a $1,000 for her school and a $100 gift card for personal use as part of Teacher Appreciation Week. Also winning were Marge Yanovitch, drama teacher at Midlothian Middle, Julia Coleman, science teacher at Monacan High, and Sonja Mix, English teacher at Thomas Dale High.
