Christmas Mother program to hold holiday registration

Families in need can register for holiday assistance through the Chesterfield-Colonial Heights Christmas Mother program on Sept. 19-22 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Chesterfield County Fairgrounds Exhibition Building, located at Courthouse and Krause roads.

Registration is open to low-income families residing in Chesterfield County or Colonial Heights. Families with children ages 18 or younger may register for toys, children's clothing and food. Senior citizens in need ages 62 or over may also register for holiday assistance.

This year's eligibility requirements have been revised. Applicants must bring the following documents to the registration:

 Virginia DMV issued driver's license or other form of legal identification that includes a photo identification (DMV issued photo identification card, military ID card, passport, etc.).

 Proof of residence (lease or utility bill).

 Social Security numbers of all household members.

 Proof of all income (pay stubs, notice of award letter for TANF, notice of food stamp benefits, Social Security verification, SSI or other disability awards letter, child support, any other payments or income).

 Guardians must bring custody papers.

Those seeking assistance must apply in person. Christmas Mother volunteers will be available to help with the application process.

The Chesterfield-Colonial Heights Christmas Mother Committee reserves the right to provide client information to other organizations offering holiday assistance for purposes of eligibility and verification. The information provided to other organizations may include the applicant's name, address and social security number.
