NEWS BRIEFS The county's Emergency Communications Center has earned accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA). The accreditation symbolizes professionalism, excellence and competence based on standards set by experts in the field of emergency communications. The process took about two years and involved 216 standards. CALEA is an independent, nonprofit organization and is the only organization that offers a public safety communications accreditation program. Chesterfield joins a select few emergency communications departments to have earned accreditation. Bruce Gee has been named president of VHI, Inc., a third-party transportation management firm headquartered in Chester. Since 2001, Gee has served as chief financial officer. Prior to that, he was employed as general manager for five years. VHI provides transportation services to largeand mid-sized manufacturers, distributors and suppliers throughout North America. Its container division handles imports and exports worldwide from major American seaports. The new officers for the Rotary Club of Brandermill are Jim Moyler, president; Mike Soden, vice president; Gayle Walters, president elect; Debbie Leidheiser, secretary; and Bill Girvin, treasurer. Three John Tyler Community College students were recently named to the 2006 Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) All-Virginia Academic Team. Lori Butterworth, Melissa Pocock and Stephanie Silvius-Byron are among 63 Virginia college students recognized for their academic excellence and service to their colleges and communities.
Each two-year college in Virginia can nominate two students per campus to the All-USA Academic Team, an annual program that honors the country's top students. The program is sponsored by PTK, USA Today and the American Association of Community Colleges. Those nominated by two-year institutions in the Commonwealth comprise the All-Virginia Academic Team. |
