Democrats will select Midlothian candidate
By Greg Pearson

The Chesterfield Democratic Committee (CDC) will determine the party's nominee for Midlothian supervisor on August 24. A caucus or mass meeting will be held at 7 p.m. in the first floor conference room at 1401 Huguenot Road.

The rules for the meeting will be determined by August 11, and interested candidates must file by August 18. There is a filing fee of $500 made payable to the party.

Democratic Spokesperson Lynne Cooper said the committee is talking to some Democrats who had applied to be interim supervisor for Midlothian, but had not been selected by the Chesterfield board.

"Tony Bernardo is considering running," she added. Bernardo is a 63-year-old business marketing professional.

Cooper declined to name other possible candidates.

Three other Democrats also applied to the board: Wendy McIndoe Austin, Charles O'Keeffe and Leonard Ziegler.

"We're interested in the best candidate, not just a true, blue Democrat," said Cooper. The selected candidate must be a resident of the Midlothian magisterial district, a registered voter and pledge to support other Democrats.

The CDC has to file its party nominee with the Registrar's Office by August 25 for the candidate's name to appear on the ballot.
