September events offer music, arts and more Looking for family-friendly, affordable entertainment that doesn't require a trip across the river? There are several such events scheduled in Chesterfield next month. Here's a quick rundown: The 93rd Annual Chesterfield County Fair continues through Saturday, Sept. 2, at the fairgrounds, located at the intersection of Courthouse and Krause roads. The fair is open 4-11 p.m. on weekdays, 11 a.m.-11 p.m. on Saturdays and 1-11 p.m. on Sundays. Fair festivities include nearly 40 midway rides and games, racing pigs, a petting zoo, pony rides, exhibits and a mechanical bull. Live entertainment is featured on the grandstand each evening at 8 p.m. For more information, visit www.chesterfieldcountyfair.org. The Chesterfield County Parks and Recreation Department will host four days of music and competition at the Virginia Folk Music Association Bluegrass Festival from Thursday, Sept. 14-Sunday, Sept. 17, at the fairgrounds. Hosted by the Chesterfield County Parks and Recreation Department and the Chesterfield Jaycees, the 29th Annual Rainbow of Arts Festival will be held on Saturday, Sept. 16, from 10 a.m.-5 p.m., at Rockwood Park, 3401 Courthouse Road. This arts-and-crafts event will feature an "Imagination Station" where children can experience clay art. There will also be a children's play area. Admission is free. For more information, call the Chesterfield Jaycees hotline at 497-4600 The Richmond Symphony will perform on Sunday, Sept. 17, at 6 p.m. at the Pocahontas State Park Heritage Amphitheater, 10301 State Park Road (off Beach Road), as part of the Pocahontas Performances Premiere Series: A Celebration of the Performing Arts. Rain date is Sept. 18 at the same time and location. Concert admission is free, but there will be a small charge for parking. Lawn chairs or blankets are recommended. Glass bottles and alcohol will not be permitted. The series, cosponsored by the Chesterfield County Parks and Recreation Department and the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation, is celebrating its sixth year of popular performances.
