Extension office now taking master gardener applications

The Chesterfield County Cooperative Extension Office is now accepting applications for its 2007 master gardener class.

Trainees will receive 50 hours of horticultural training from extension agents, local specialists and advanced master gardeners. The classes will be held Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9 a.m.-noon during February and March. Previous knowledge or experience in gardening is preferred, but not necessary.

Upon completion of 50 hours of volunteer service, trainees will become certified master gardeners.

The master gardener volunteer program is designed to meet the community's increasing needs for home gardening information, including information on trees, shrubs, flowers, vegetables and lawns. A master gardener serves the community in many ways, including telephone consultations, gardening clinics, fairs, lawn programs and speaking engagements.
