Put Chesterfield ahead of Powhatan for water Dear Editor, Once again, the Chesterfield County supervisors have failed to address the best interests of the people they were elected to represent. With voluntary water conservation [previously] in effect and mandatory restrictions always a possibility, our supervisors have approved the sale of 500,000 gallons of water a day to Powhatan County. Their continued shortsightedness and arrogance toward county residents is unbelievable. When water restrictions become mandatory, Powhatan is normally exempted since most of the county is on wells. Under this scenario, while Chesterfield will have to curtail water usage, it will continue to deliver 500,000 gallons a day to Powhatan. Additionally, why should Chesterfield County help Powhatan County develop businesses along Route 60 that will only result in more tax dollars leaving our county? Edward McHarg Midlothian |
