Organizations schedule golf tournaments

Two local organizations - the South of the James Jaycees and Chesterfield CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) - have scheduled upcoming golf tournaments.

The South of the James Jaycees (SOJJ) will hold its inaugural SOJJ Young Professionals Miniature Golf Tournament on Sat., Sept. 23 at noon at Oasis Sports Park, located at 15300 Cosby Road. Rain date is Sept. 30.

The cost to play in the tournament is $25 per person, and includes:

18-hole miniature golf "greens fee" and club usage.

Catered lunch sponsored by Carrabba's Italian Grill.

Awards ceremony with prizes for low and high scores.

A registration goody bag with prizes and coupons.

A chance to win prizes including a sixmonth membership to American Family Fitness, Sheetz gas cards, Wal-Mart gift cards and an IPOD.

"Whether you call it mini-golf or putt-putt, this is a wonderful event designed to provide an interactive, social outlet for young professionals in the metropolitan Richmond area," says Rebekah Pierce, SOJJ chapter president. Golf Tournament is open to the public, and is sponsored by Midlothian Electric Company, American Family Fitness, Average Girl Magazine and Oasis Sports Park.

Some event sponsorships are still available to businesses or individuals.

Entry forms can be picked up at American Family Fitness centers.

Onsite registration for the tournament begins at noon with tee-off at 1:30 p.m.

A golf tournament will be held on Mon., Oct. 2 to benefit Chesterfield CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) at the Brandermill Country Club, located at 3700 Brandermill Parkway.

CASA is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization that trains community volunteers to advocate for abused, neglected and abandoned children who are involved in the court process. CASA volunteers gather information about the child's situation, monitor court orders, attend court hearings and provide recommendations to the court.

CASA's 5th Annual Golf Tournament will begin with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. Cart fee, range balls, lunch, beverages, dinner from Carrabba's Italian Grill and more are included in the tournament fee.
