A School Board Candidates Forum will be held on Thurs., Oct. 19 , at 7 p.m. in the auditorium of Meadowbrook High School. During the forum, Dale District candidates running for the School Board will discuss education issues and detail their plans to county residents. Creative Movement for Mommy and Me, Thursdays through Nov. 16, 11:30 a.m.-12:15 p.m., Bensley Community Building, 2900 Drewry's Bluff Rd. Join your toddler or preschooler as they learn the joys of movement and build healthy habits that will last a lifetime. The course will feature dancing, music, songs and props. Sat., Oct. 14

The Virginia Boat Club and the James River High School Crew Team are jointly hosting the 1st Annual Head of the James Regatta at Robious Landing Park, beginning at 9:30 a.m. During this 5,000-meter race, competitors will leave in heats and race against the clock with the winning crews receiving the title of "Head of the River." The Chesterfield Technical Center chapter of SkillsUSA will hold its 9th Annual Car Show, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at Tractor Supply Co., 6801 Lake Harbour Dr. Car clubs and individuals from across Virginia will display all types of cars, including classic cars, street rods, muscle cars, 4x4s and mini-trucks. Mt. Malady, The Seasoning, from 6-8 p.m., at Henricus Historical Park. Mt. Malady, the first hospital in English-speaking North America, was built to help settlers recover after their overseas voyage to Virginia. Enjoy a look at the best in 17th century health care. International Education Night, 7 p.m., Manchester High School. Middle and high school students and their parents can learn about opportunities for studying abroad. Opportunities for world travel and study during the 2006-2007 school year include: two weeks in Ecuador/Galapagos Islands or Costa Rica to study Spanish, wildlife and the environment; three weeks in Japan to study Japanese or in Uruguay, Spain or Mexico to study Spanish; two weeks in Germany to study German or in France to study French. LOOKING AHEAD...

Chesterfield County's Domestic Violence Task Force is offering a training session on domestic violence and substance abuse on Mon., Oct. 23 , from 3-4:30 p.m., at the Chesterfield County Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court, 7000 Lucy Corr Blvd. The session will focus on how to detect, treat and acquire services for victims of domestic violence in instances of substance abuse.
