Henricus gets a new Yehawkan

The Citie of Henricus has a new Yehawkan courtesy of the Boy Scouts of Enon Troop 922. A Yehawkan is a native long-house used by the Appomattox Indians, which served as the primary semi-permanent structure structure for the tribe. It is built out of saplings lashed with deer sinew and covered with hand-woven mats.

Nationwide Insurance has appointed Boris B. Foust as an agency executive for the Midlothian market. A Chester resident, Foust retired from the U.S. Army and began a 16-year career with Nationwide, becoming a Million Dollar Roundtable Qualifying member and a National Quality Award winner. Foust is also a member of the James River Rotary Club and the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.

Ron Ferland has been promoted to district leader by Primerica Financial Services. His local office is located at 14405 Justice Road in Midlothian.

Thirty-one teams recently participated in the Chesterfield

County Chamber of Commerce's 2nd Annual Golf Classic at the Highlands Golfers' Club. The event raises funds for the local chamber. In the championship flight, the Bank of Virginia team of Tommy Adams, Bruce Brockwell, Barry Brockwell and Larry Henshaw placed first. The second flight winners were the Financial Solutions team of David Dye, Steve Rue, Marc Greenfield and John Stewart.

The 3,000-member Bon Air Baptist Church has added James River High School as a worship site. The church's contemporary service is videotaped and shown at the James River campus. Another site may be added next fall.

About 300 Comcast employees and family members worked last Saturday at Henricus Historical Park during the 6th Annual Comcast Cares Day. The volunteers landscaped, painted, mulched, tackled an erosion project and completed a palisade fence extension to preserve the historical area.

The Virginia Folk Music Association recently hosted a three-day Bluegrass Festival at the Chesterfield

County Fairgrounds. First-place winners include the Deer Creek Boys in the band category; Jason Tomlin in the male vocalist category; Lynn Stevens in the female vocalist category; Justin Tomlin in the guitar category; David Carroll in the banjo category; Malia Furtado in the fiddle category; Chris Hart in the dobro category; Cason Ogden in the mandolin category; Cody Brown in the bass category; and Shelby Gold in the junior entertainer category.

Chesterfield County resident

Shawnee Hansen was recently awarded a $40,000 home makeover, the grand prize of the Williams & Sherrill Live Beautifully Home Makeover contest. The contest was held in conjunction with the company's 15th anniversary.

Kevin Clarke, an eighth grader at Swift Creek Middle School, will compete in the Golf Channel's Drive, Chip and Putt National Championship in Orlando, Fla. on Oct. 21. Kevin was the overall winner for his age group at Independence Golf Course, and then won the regional event at Twin Lakes Country Club in Fairfax.
