Lakepointe appreciates Humphrey's vote on traffic light After reading your [Oct. 4] article concerning the possibility of a stoplight at Hull Street Road and Duckridge Boulevard, I felt compelled to give credit where credit is due. What your article did not explain was the lesson given by [Renny] Humphrey in her exceptional display of being a supervisor for Chesterfield County and not just Matoaca District. As you noted in the article, supervisors usually vote the same as the supervisor whose district the case lies in. Ms. Humphrey not only spoke for the people, she also took the time to personally gather facts and figures concerning the light separation. [Supervisors Dickie] King and [Kelly] Miller chose to abstain following [Transportation Director John] McCracken's comment that he felt this area of Hull Street had not changed since the 1995 [approval]. As I indicated in my comments before the board, in 1995 there was no Lakepointe, Lowe's, Winterpock shopping center [or] Rite-Aid, and Hampton Park was just getting started. I guess these insignificant additions did nothing to change the landscape of the area. King and Miller made a point of telling Ms. Humphrey that even with their abstention, the case would pass. This spineless attempt to gloss over the facts now forces this case to go to [the Virginia Department of Transportation] with two votes [for and two abstentions] instead of the 4-0 it deserved. Ms. Humphrey and [Clover Hill Supervisor Art] Warren displayed real leadership. Ms. Humphrey not only fought for the citizens of her district, but also for my district. I hope the citizens of Dale and Bermuda [districts] took note of Ms. Humphrey's outstanding efforts to provide safety first for all citizens of Chesterfield.
