Miller Center Forum at Lucy Corr Springdale at Lucy Corr Village has announced its schedule for the Miller Center Forum, which provides continuing education for the University of Virginia and the regional community through live web casts and C-SPAN broadcasts. Each week, the forum brings together leading experts and audiences for lively discussions of public policy topics. The program fosters an exchange of views between those who make or study policy and an informed citizenry. The forum is nonpartisan and seeks to present diverse points of view. Lucy Corr Village is hosting a site for the forum. The broadcasts are scheduled throughout October and are open to the public. Seating is limited and can be reserved by calling Lucy Corr Village at 706-5712. The following broadcasts are scheduled: Fri., Oct. 20 The American Military Adventure in Iraq Thomas E. Ricks, Pentagon correspondent for The Washington Post, interviewed numerous Bush administration officials, consulted thousands of pages of military documents and traveled extensively in Iraq before reaching the conclusion that the administration was blind to the realities of Iraq. Mon., Oct. 23 The Long War Lt. Gen. R. Steven Whitcomb, a University of Virginia graduate, is the Commanding General of the Third U. S. Army, U. S. Army Forces Central Command (USARCENT), Coalition Forces Land Component Command. Whitcomb will discuss the Army's ongoing transformation to meet the threats of terrorism. Tues., Oct. 24 Thieves of Baghdad Colonel Matthew Bogdanos is an assistant district attorney in Manhattan, who has prosecuted the Central Park murderer as well as Sean "P. Diddy" Combs and Jamal "Shyne" Barrows for their 1999 shootout, and now prosecutes stolen antiquities cases. After losing his apartment near the World Trade Center on 9/11, he joined a multi-agency taskforce on Afghanistan and received a Bronze Star for counterterrorist operations against al-Qaeda. He then served in Iraq and received a 2005 National Humanities Medal for his work in recovering Iraq's priceless treasures. |
