Chesterfield captures most awards for Parade of Homes New homes in Chesterfield County won most of the awards during this month's Parade of Homes. According to the Home Building Association of Richmond (HBAR), 60 percent of the award-winning homes were located in Chesterfield. HBAR also reports that 52 percent of the builders who won awards were headquartered in Chesterfield. Those Chesterfield builders include Condrey Construction, D. O. Allen Homes, Dumont Classic Homes, Emerson Builders, Finer Homes, Gold Crest Homes, Lifestyle Builders and Developers, Main Street Homes, Orleans Homebuilders, Ryan Homes, Suntrace and Tomac Corp. DataPool employer services has entered into a partnership with eScreen to become an active member of the eScreen Occupational Health Network. eScreen is the developer of the eScreen Drugs of Abuse Screening System for workplace drug testing. The Chesterfield Board of Supervisors has reappointed Supervisor Dickie King, Gary Thomson and Bob Walker to serve on Virginia's Gateway Region committee. The Chesterfield Board of Supervisors has appointed David Mangano to serve on the Community Criminal Justice Board until June 30, 2007, and Jeffrey W. Faries, Colonial Heights' chief of police, to serve on the same board until June 30, 2008. David F. Sharp has been appointed to serve as an at-large member on the Chesterfield Disability Services Board until Dec. 31, 2008. As part of its Adopt A Cop Program, the Southern Knights Cruisers recently held a fundraising event at Hardee's at 1901 W. Hundred Road in Chester and raised $3,808 in three hours for the Chesterfield County Police Fund. For donations, citizens could request that a friend or family member be locked up and that person had to donate an equal amount not to be locked up. In 1996, he organized and became the coordinator for the Neighborhood Watch program in his community. Citizens will be able to drop off unwanted computers, monitors, printers, faxes, phones, cables and computer components at area OfficeMax stores on Nov. 4 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. to be recycled free. Chesterfield locations are 9748 Midlothian Turnpike, 4901 Commonwealth Center Parkway and 12248 Bermuda Crossroads Lane. The EPA-certified recycling also provides OfficeMax coupons for discounts on computers and laptops purchased Nov. 4-6. The "Be Green & Save Green" promotion is supported by 1-800-GOTJUNK. Midlothian Middle School drama teacher Marge Yanovitch has been chosen as Wal-Mart's 2006 Virginia Teacher of the Year. The surprise recognition was part of the company's 11th annual nationwide program. Yanovitch was chosen for her contributions to education and her positive impact on students. Earlier this year, she was one of four Chesterfield County Public Schools instructors honored during Teacher Appreciation Week for making a positive difference in the lives of young people. Yanovitch's recognition earned Midlothian Middle a $10,000 educational grant. The Matoaca Park football stadium will be named after Kenny Crew, who served 27 years on the Matoaca Youth Athletics Association. He also represented Matoaca District on the Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission. In Chesterfield, five childcare teachers and two childcare programs have received recognition from the United Way of Greater Richmond & Petersburg and the Greater Richmond Chamber for making the list of the 2006 National Child Development awards. The teachers are Laverne Oliver, DeLisa Curtis, Patrice Hazelwood, Tonya Simington and Treely Williamson. The program winners are EduCare Children's Center at Memory Lane and the Chester YMCA Preschool. The project combines a quality rating assessment with mentoring, family involvement, teacher education, director training, and improvement and incentive grants. Stroller Strides, a fitness program for mothers that can be done with their babies and young children, is holding classes every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9 -10 a.m. at Goyne Park next to Ecoff Elementary School. Landon Chadwick James of Troop 869 and Thomas Joseph Milano of Troop 877 have achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. SportClips, located on Hull Street Road near Woodlake, will contribute 10 percent of its total sales revenue on Oct. 20-21 and Oct. 27-28 to Team Rescue Mode, a group of area firefighters who compete nationally in Combat Challenge events. In November, Team Rescue Mode will travel to Las Vegas to compete in the world championship. |
