Bandolino's shoe store comes to Chesterfield Towne Center

Late next month, a new, high-end shoe store will open at Chesterfield Towne Center. Bandolino's will feature casual, business and special occasion shoe styles. Located in the Macy's wing, the store will be accessible using the entrance near Old Navy or the north entrance near Paint n' Play.

Two other existing tenants are expanding their space at the mall.

Select Comfort is almost doubling its space to 1,426 square feet to include a complete line of beds as well as sleeper sofas. Bath & Body Works is expanding to 2,700 square feet and reopening later this month with a new store design.

The Chesterfield County Chamber of Commerce will present "Breakfast with the Pros: Putting the Human Back in Human Resources" on Fri., Nov. 10 from 7:30-9 a.m. at the Holiday Inn Koger Center. Speaker Charlotte Jensen will lead an interactive discussion of 10 issues facing HR managers and business owners. Registration is $20 for chamber members and $30 for future members. The Central Virginia Waste Management Authority and TFC Recycling are offering tours of the Chester facility where curbside materials are collected and sorted prior to being sold to companies around the world. The free tours are from 2:30-3:30 p.m. on Oct. 26 and Nov. 9, and are limited to adults. Specific dress requirements will be provided upon registration. Call 359-8413 to register.

Chesterfield County has received a distinguished budget presentation award from the Government Finance Association of the United States and Canada. The award was presented to the management and budget department, signifying the "highest principles of governmental budgeting."

HHHunt, developer of Charter Colony and the proposed rezoning of Branner Station near Chester, is celebrating 40 years in real estate development. The company has over 1,800 employees in five states and manages properties worth $291 million.

About 180 leaders in Chesterfield County and throughout the Richmond metro are auctioning off 100 items at www.rdfa2006.cmarket. com. Proceeds from the online auction will be used to combat substance abuse. Items include a handsigned photograph of the 1980 gold medal-winning U.S. hockey team, a commemorative Washington Redskins football signed by Coach Joe Gibbs and lunch with Attorney General Bob McDonnell. The online auction is being held through Oct. 31 by the Regional Drug Free Alliance, a nonprofit organization working to reduce substance abuse.

The Board of Supervisors recently recognized Dick Page for his contributions to beautifying Chesterfield County by using citizen volunteers to remove illegal signs.

The Chesterfield board appointed Ray Cullop of Ray's Towing, Tony Purcell of Sunrise Towing and Rodger Kendrick of B& K Towing to the Towing Advisory Board.

The Chesterfield County Police Department has been awarded a $98,723 federal grant from the U.S. Department of Justice COPS Office to purchase equipment to enhance the department's training and crime analysis. No local match is required.

Joshua Cole, a fifth grade teacher at Chalkley Elementary School, is one of about 100 U.S. educators to win a $25,000 Milken Family Foundation National Educator Award this

year. In addition to teaching, Cole coordinates Chalkley's before- and after-school program, leads an annual 5K run/walk for the community and has served as a summer school site coordinator. He is pursuing a doctorate in educational leadership at Virginia Commonwealth University. The foundation provides public recognition and financial rewards to elementary and secondary school teachers, principals and other education professionals who are furthering their education.

Spring Run Elementary students raised $34,656 for the American Heart Association (AHA) last year through its Jump Rope for Heart program. Out of the more than 23,000 schools across the nation that participated, Spring Run ranked 18th in the amount of money it raised. Jump Rope for Heart is an annual AHA fundraising event to promote physical activity among children. School-wide events, including a Family Fitness Night, were held at Spring Run, and each class participated in its own event during physical education. Jacobs Road Elementary raised $17,327 while Chester Middle raised $8,060.

In celebration of Veteran's Day, WSI-WebStrategies and Village Bank are partnering to recognize the dedication and bravery of American troops fighting overseas.

On Wed., Nov. 8 at the Village Bank branch on Alverser Drive and on Thurs., Nov. 9 at the Waterford Place branch, WSI-WebStrategies will create Veteran's Day videos to be sent to soldiers stationed overseas. People who want to send a personal greeting to a loved one overseas should visit one of these branches before Nov. 7 to sign up for a time slot.
