John Tyler remembers veterans during ceremony

Veteran's Day Ceremony, Nov. 10, 11 a.m., Nicholas Student Center, John Tyler Community College, Chester campus, 13101 Jefferson Davis Highway. The community is invited to honor members of the armed services during this annual ceremony. Faculty, staff and student veterans will be recognized and all in attendance will be invited to share their reflections on Veteran's Day. The event concludes with a memorial tree planting. Free.  John Tyler Community College Board Meeting, 3 p.m., Chester campus, 13101 Jefferson Davis Highway, Bird Hall Conference Room. The public is invited to attend. A sign-up sheet will be made available 30 minutes prior to the board meeting. Persons interested in addressing the board may sign up at that time. Sat., Nov. 11

Veteran's Day Ceremony, 2 p.m., 1917 historic Chesterfield County Courthouse. Residents are encouraged to join the Chesterfield Historical Society in expressing gratitude to the men and women, past and present, who have sacrificed in the fight for freedom.

Electronics recycling, 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Rockwood Park, 3401 Courthouse Road. Most electronics will be accepted free of charge, but there will be a $10-20 recycling fee for televisions and a $7 recycling fee for computer monitors. Silent Auction and Yard Sale, 1-4 p.m. Chester Baptist Church Great Hall, 4317 School St., Chester. Sponsored by the Shepherd's Center of Chesterfield. Silent auction bidding begins at 1 p.m. with items closing every hour. Donated items include vacation retreats, tickets to entertainment events, and more. Specialty Center for the Arts 2006 Senior Dance Showcase, 7 p.m., Thomas Dale High School, 3626 W. Hundred Road, Chester. Graduating senior dance majors enthusiastically share their art with the community. Tickets cost $3 at the door. Senior citizens and children under five are free.

Wed., Nov. 15

Human Trafficking will be the topic of discussion at the meeting of the Huguenot Republican Women's Club. Speakers will include Lisa T. Johnson-Firth, a consultant and attorney specializing in trafficking issues and human rights, Cathy Brown, who works for Catholic Charities and has helped trafficking victims in the Richmond area, and Yasmeen Telsem, author of an essay on the subject. Dinner at Dena's Restaurant on Mall Drive (across from Chesterfield Towne Center) begins at 6:30 p.m. Speakers begin at 7:30 p.m. The public is invited to attend.
