Police increase seat belt patrols

The Chesterfield County Police Department is stepping up patrols to enforce seat belt and child safety seat laws in conjunction with the Click It or Ticket campaign.

"The Click It or Ticket campaign is a great platform to educate and encourage Chesterfield County drivers about the importance of wearing a seat belt and securing children in a child safety seat. Taking those two steps increases your chances of surviving a crash," said Sgt. Clinton Schott of the Traffic Section.

Police remind motorists who plan to hit the road for the holidays to buckle up and ensure their passengers are also wearing a seat belt. Motorists who are stopped for other violations can be ticketed if they are not wearing a seat belt or if a passenger under the age of 16 is not wearing a seat belt or is not properly secured in a child safety seat.
