Library hosts holiday concert for seniors

In The Spotlight
Get in the Know: Christmas Concert, 10:30 a.m.-noon, Chester Library, 11800 Centre St. A special program of holiday music will be featured. Refreshments will be served. This program is recommended for adults ages 55 and older. Please call 748-6314 for more information. Sponsored by the Friends of the Chesterfield County Public Library and the Chesterfield County Parks and Recreation Department.

Wed., Dec. 13

Gardening program, 9:30 a.m., Episcopal Church of the Redeemer. The Salisbury Garden Club will discuss "Daylilies and Hostas - Perfect Perennials for Sun and Shade." The program will be presented by Susan Compton, owner of Bayberry Row. For additional details, contact Candy Nasser at 897-5763.

Winter concert, 7 p.m., Clover Hill High School. The concert will feature the music of Tchaikovsky, Manheim Steamroller, Elgar and Handel's Messiah. Holiday favorites will be performed by the intermediate, concert and chamber orchestras. Admission is $5.

Genito Woods Neighborhood Watch Program (NWP) startup meeting, 7 p.m. LaPrade Library Meeting Room, 9000 Hull Street Rd. All residents, chairmen, block captains and businesses are invited to attend. Bring a neighbor; there will be information for all. Crime Prevention Office Bryan Miltenberger and other Chesterfield County representatives will attend. For information, call J. Winter concert, 7 p.m., Cosby High School, 14300 Fox Club Parkway, Midlothian. Admission is $5.

Holiday concert, 7 p.m., James River High School, 3700 James River Road. The orchestra will perform holiday favorites. Admission is $5 at the door. Seniors and children are free.

Mon., Dec. 18

A Christmas Celebration Potluck, noon- 2 p.m., Bensley Community Building, 2900 Drewry's Bluff Rd. Enjoy holiday music and a visit from Santa. Bring a dish to share. Free. For more information, call David Potter, 275- 5321.

Tues., Dec. 19

Holiday Sing-Along, 7 p.m., Crestwood Elementary School, 7600 Whittington Dr., Richmond. The school will host a holiday sing-along for children, parents and the community.

Mon., Dec 25 and Tues., Dec. 26

County offices closed for the Christmas holiday.

LOOKING AHEAD...

Children are invited to read to a Certified Therapy Dog during Read 2 Rover on Dec. 21 from 4:30-5:30 p.m. at the Midlothian Library, 521 Coalfield Rd. This program by Caring Canines is designed to help children become better readers. The dogs sit quietly next to children while they read, thus providing comfort and companionship to children who struggle with reading or those who simply want to improve their reading. Limited space. The Midlothian Library Book Discussion Group will meet on Dec. 27 from 7:30-8:30 p.m. to discuss "We the People" book selections including "Death Comes for the Archbishop" by Willa Cather, "Barrio Boy" by Ernesto Galarza, "The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin" edited by Louis P. Masur, "The Glory Field" by Walter Dean Myers, "Giants in the Earth" by O.E. Rolvaag, and "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn" by Betty Smith. Please call 794-7907 for information.
