School forums scheduled

Meet Chesterfield’s new superintendent and school board members and hear about the sixyear strategic plan detailing how Chesterfield County Public Schools will achieve excellence during a series of community forums scheduled over the coming months.

The school system will host five community forums – one in each magisterial district. The first took place on Dec. 4 in the Matoaca District. Below is the schedule for the remaining forums:

+ Jan. 11 at Thomas Dale High, 3626 W. Hundred Road, with School Board Chair Marshall Trammell Jr. for the Bermuda District.

+ Feb. 5 at Clover Hill High, 13900 Hull Street Road, with School Board member Dianne Pettitt for the Clover Hill District.

+ Mar. 8 at Salem Middle, 9700 Salem Church Road, with School Board member David Wyman for the Dale District.

+ Apr. 2 at Robious Middle, 2701 Robious Crossing Drive, with School Board member Dr. James Schroeder for the Midlothian District.

All forums begin at 7 p.m. Registration is not required.

During the meetings, Superintendent Marcus Newsome will give details about the school system’s strategic plan, which is titled “Design for Excellence.” The plan sets out the steps that Chesterfield schools will take to achieve excellence including closing student achievement gaps, expecting more rigorous coursework from students, continuing school safety efforts and supporting professional growth among employees.
