Extreme Wellness Makeover takes a lifetime
      Maxwell Hahn, 51, is enjoying a new lease on life. No longer tiring after walking a few steps, Hahn exercises several times a week. He also likes what he sees when he looks in the mirror now. But that wasn't always the case. More than a decade ago, Hahn's weight was topping 400 pounds, so on July 1, 1996, he had gastric bypass surgery.

School system names 2008 Teacher of the Year
      A funny bone, a wishbone and a backbone are essential in the classroom, according to Kerry Fretwell, Chesterfield County's 2008 Teacher of the Year. "Combining a sense of humor, a hopeful attitude and a fierce sense of integrity has never failed me," explains the ninth-grade English teacher at Cosby High School.

County libraries keep kids reading over the summer
      Students may be on vacation during the summer months, but Blanche DePonte of the Chesterfield County Public Library hopes to keep them reading during their break from school. With that goal in mind, the library hosts Summer Reading Program events each summer for both their educational and entertainment value.

Meadowbrook High to extend school hours
      The bells will ring earlier in the morning this fall for Meadowbrook High School students as they add an extra 30 minutes of instructional time to each day. School days will begin 15 minutes earlier and end 15 minutes later than they did during the 2006-2007 school year.
