Chesterfield man is arrested for 2004 rape in Richmond

It took almost four years, but Richmond police finally got their man - thanks to Trooper N. L. Hansen of the Virginia State Police. According to state police, 44-year-old Jose R. Gerezano, of the 6700 block of Shady Brook Lane, was picked up on charges of rape and assault and battery around 4:15 a.m. on July 22. Gerezano was wanted in connection with the attack of a woman in the 6600 block of Midlothian Turnpike on Sept. 3, 2003. Hansen had earlier arrested Gerezano on DUI charges.

In other crime reports:

Barrister Road. A 1990 white Chrysler Lebaron was stolen from a residence in the 6100 block on July 15 and recovered three days later in Harrisonburg.

Jefferson Davis Highway. Chesterfield police responded to an alarm shortly after 4 a.m. on July 22. Someone had smashed in the glass of the front door of Honda House in the 15800 block but did not gain entrance.

Hull Street Road. The suspect(s) broke the windows in five vehicles in the 6800 block on July 21 to get inside and steal stereo equipment.

Meadow Farm Road. The teenage suspect knocked on the victims' door on July 21 and used the phone. He returned later and asked to use the phone again. This time two other teens, armed and masked, accompanied him. The three teens made the victims lie on the floor, took the keys to a 1992 Cadillac, and stole the car, jewelry and other items. The Cadillac was later recovered.

Midlothian Turnpike. The suspect entered the Food Emporium in the 9800 block around 7:30 p.m. on July 23 and waited until the other customers left. He approached the clerk, and displaying a handgun, demanded the money from the register. The suspect fled on foot with the money.

Oak Hollow Road. A bottle bomb exploded on the front porch of a residence in the 4900 block on July 23. No one was hurt.

Pinetta Road. Someone broke into the Brighton Green Community Association building in the 600 block on July 20 and stole a cash box.

Sunrise Way. At 5:10 a.m. on July 18, the victim was in her car in the Sunrise Apartments parking lot when she heard a loud noise. She exited the vehicle and was trying to find a flashlight in the backseat when the suspect ran up behind her. She fought off his sexual attack, and the suspect fled.

Weldon Street. The victim's 1995 green Dodge pickup truck was parked in the 19000 block on July 18 with a for sale sign in it. It was stolen but later recovered in Petersburg.
