Police arrest restaurant robber hiding in ceiling

Chesterfield police arrested Dana A. Joseph, 25, of no known address, for breaking and entering with the intent to commit a felony and grand larceny. Joseph allegedly climbed onto the roof of the China Buffet in the 10800 block of Hull Street Road on Aug. 7 during the early morning hours. Police theorize he entered the restaurant through a hatch and then climbed down to just above the ceiling in the restaurant but stopped there when he saw a light in the restaurant. Police were called, located Joseph and took him into custody.

In other crimes reported by Chesterfield police:

Eanes Road. A 1995 Dodge pickup truck was stolen from the victim's driveway in the 19600 block on Aug. 2 and recovered in Petersburg.

Hull Street Road. The cleaning service arrived at the YMCA at 1:15 a.m. on Aug. 5 and found a door in the entrance area propped open. When the police arrived, they found entry had been made through an unsecured rear door. The suspect(s) had ransacked the office area.

Jefferson Davis Highway. The victim was shopping at 7:45 p.m. on Aug. 6 at a store in the Breckenridge Shopping Center when she saw the suspect masturbating in one of the aisles. When he saw her, he quickly left the store.

Kim Drive. The victim had just gotten out of his 2007 Chevrolet SUV in the 3100 block at 7:30 a.m. when the suspect jumped inside and drove off with the vehicle.

Moorefield Office Park. The two masked suspects grabbed the victim who worked for Applebee's as she was leaving the restaurant at 12:20 a.m. on Aug. 6 and forced her back inside. They demanded that she open the safe, and the suspects then made their getaway by locking her in the freezer.

Rittenhouse Drive. Suspect(s) gained entry to the El Paso Mexican Restaurant in Swift Creek Village through a vent in the roof before taking the money in the register and a cash box.

Rosegill Road. The victim had a house fire at his residence in the 200 block several months ago and was storing some household goods and seven vehicles there while the house was being rebuilt. Someone stole all seven vehicles, a 2007 Honda motor scooter and some of the household goods.

• The victim parked his vehicle in the 400 block on Aug. 6 at 1:50 a.m. and got out to visit a friend. The suspect ran up from behind and struck him in the head with a crowbar-type weapon. The suspect grabbed the victim's wallet and ran to a waiting vehicle to escape.
