Proposed ordinance could target illegal immigrants
      Just a few weeks after the county board received an update on illegal immigration, the Chesterfield Planning Commission will review a proposed ordinance at its Sept. 18 meeting that is similar to one of the report's recommendations to reduce the number of illegal immigrants in the county.

      The Chesterfield County Chamber of Commerce invites the public to participate in the Third Annual 5K Run/Walk and Children's 1-Mile Run, presented by Village Bank. Volunteers needed for tax season
      Volunteers are needed to staff the AARP Tax-Aide sites at the Harbour Point Club and the LaPrade and Chester libraries. Tax returns are prepared at no charge for low and middle income taxpayers with special attention given to those ages 60 and older.

Commercial development continues to be active
Numerous multifamily, office and other projects are in the works throughout county
      The pace of commercial development, including multifamily projects such as apartments, townhouses and condominiums, remains very active in the county. Thirteen different multifamily projects are under construction throughout Chesterfield from Bon Air southwest to the 360 corridor and from Midlothian to the I-295/Route 10 interchange.

Recommendations pending for county impact fees
      The Impact Fee Ordinance Committee is holding weekly meetings in order to make a recommendation to the planning commission by its meeting next month. The committee of citizens and members of the development community is focusing on whether impact fees should be applied to residential development that paid no road proffer at rezoning.

Extension seeks master gardener applications
      Chesterfield County Cooperative Extension currently is accepting applications for the 2008 Master Gardener Volunteer Training Program. Master Gardener volunteers educate the public in aspects of home gardening, including growing a greener lawn, gardening for wildlife, using native plants, creating waterwise landscapes and other subjects.
