Police arrest five for home invasion homicide in Ettrick

Mizzell Mizzell County police have arrested five individuals for a home invasion that left one man dead late last month. Eighteen-year-old Dennis G. Epps of the 800 block of Birdbrook Drive, 19-yearold Monteze Deon Rawlings of Locust Court in Petersburg, 23-year-old Shimeka N. Thorpe of the 100 block of Elm Street in Petersburg, 19-year-old Nelson Dewayne Dunston of the 4700 block of Woodstream Drive in Petersburg, and an unidentified juvenile male have been arrested for the robbery and murder of 55-year-old Ronnie Sylvester Gordon.

According to police, Gordon was shot and killed after three suspects, two armed with guns, entered his home in the Colonial Pines Estates subdivision around 11 p.m. during a home invasion on Aug. 28.

This was the third home invasion in the Ettrick area since July.

The suspects are all charged with murder, conspiracy to commit murder, burglary, conspiracy to commit burglary, robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery, use of a firearm during the commission of a murder, and use of a firearm in the commission of a robbery.

Another home invasion

Police are searching for an unidentified man who forced his way into a home in the 50 block of Kings Court in the Americana mobile home park and demanded money from the residents on Aug. 30. No one was injured, and the suspect fled without obtaining money.

The incident occurred after a man knocked on the front door of the victims' home at about 10:30 p.m. When the victim attempted to open the door, the suspect forced the door open, displayed a gun and demanded money. The suspect fled once he realized the victim did not have any money.

The suspect is described as a black male, 20-29 years old, 5 feet, 9 inches tall and weighing 200 pounds. He has a medium complexion, brown eyes, goatee and a flattop hairstyle.

Police investigate bank robbery

County police are searching for 24-yearold Jason Ray Mizzell, who is wanted in connection with the Sept. 4 robbery of the BB&T bank at 5756 Hopkins Rd. According to police, Mizzell allegedly entered the bank around 3:30 p.m. and produced a note demanding money. The suspect, who did not display a weapon, took the money and left on foot in an unknown direction.

Two-vehicle crash on Belmont Road

The Chesterfield County Police Department is investigating a two-vehicle crash that occurred at the intersection of Belmont and Cogbill roads about 5:57 p.m. on Sept. 1.

Police said a 2003 Mitsubishi Galant traveling west on Cogbill Road failed to yield the right of way and collided with a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado truck traveling south on Belmont Road.

Both drivers sustained minor injuries. A passenger in the Galant was transported to VCU Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

Police continue to investigate this crash.
