Westchester Commons scores cinema complex
      A 16-screen Regal Cinemas movie theatre will provide a major draw for Westchester Commons, the 1.1 million-square-foot outdoor lifestyle center under development at the intersection of Midlothian Turnpike and Route 288. The center is the retail and entertainment showpiece of the 640-acre mixed-use Watkins Centre that broke ground last July.

Rabies vaccination clinic scheduled
      In an effort to prevent the spread of rabies, the Chesterfield County Health Department and Chesterfield County Animal Control will hold a rabies vaccination clinic on Sat., Oct. 20, from 1-3 p.m., at the Chesterfield County Fairgrounds Exhibition Building, 10300 Courthouse Rd.

County board rejects alcohol restrictions
      A proposal pushed by Board of Supervisors Chairman Kelly Miller that would have required a conditional use permit to sell alcoholic beverages within 500 feet of schools, daycare facilities, churches and residential neighborhoods died due to lack of support from other board members last week.

County police and Shred It® protect your identity
      In celebration of Crime Prevention Month, Shred It®, a national document destruction company, and the Chesterfield Police Department will hold a document shredding event at Chesterfield Towne Center on Sat., Oct. 27, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Citizens may bring up to four boxes (no larger than 10" x 13" x 18") of personal documents to be shredded onsite.

County offers free GED testing
      The county is allowing first-time GED test-takers to waive the normal fee of $43.50 this month. Traffic sting nets 31 tickets
      A traffic light enforcement at the intersection of Courthouse Road and Midlothian Turnpike during rush hour on Sept. 21 resulted in 31 traffic summonses being issued. The infractions included 15 failures to obey a traffic signal, seven failures to obey a highway sign, three driving without a seat belt and other minor offenses.
