New shopping center proposed at Rt. 288/Rt. 10
      There could be yet another shopping destination for county residents if rezoning is approved for a new 900,000-square-foot power center at the intersection of Route 288 and Iron Bridge Road. As proposed, the center is scheduled to open in the spring of 2010.

Committee will recommend against impact fees
      A committee set up by the board of supervisors is recommending against implementing impact fees, which could raise $50 million to improve Chesterfield's roads. The Chesterfield County Impact Fee Advisory Committee voted 4-2 last week to not endorse imposing a $5,820 fee on about 9,000 lots where property owners did not pay road proffers.

Roseland goes to county planning board for vote
      Roseland Development Company goes before the Chesterfield Planning Commission next week, asking to rezone 1,395 acres to build 5,140 homes and 1.5 million square feet of commercial development at the intersection of Woolridge Road and Route 288.

County changes tune on phosphorous recommendations
      A proposed land use plan for the upper Swift Creek area that previously recommended phosphorous runoff be limited to .16 pounds annually for commercial development has been changed to .45 pounds, the current standard imposed in a 1997 ordinance.

County Republicans accept Schroeder's resignation
      The Chesterfield Republican Committee has accepted the resignation of Dr. Jim Schroeder from its membership after he endorsed Independent Dan Gecker in the Midlothian supervisor race over incumbent Republican Don Sowder. A longtime committee member, Schroeder has represented the Midlothian District on the school board for the past 14 years.

Youth will be heard at Nov. 8 forum
      The Chesterfield County Department of Youth Planning and Development is hosting the Chesterfield County Youth Forum, "WHY: We Hear You," on Thurs., Nov. 8, from 4:30- 8:30 p.m., at Manchester Middle School, 7401 Hull Street Rd. The Community Youth Forum is an annual event that brings youth and adults together to discuss youth-related issues.

Midlothian Village Day is approaching
      The 26th Annual Midlothian Village Day Festival will be held on Sat., Oct. 20, from 10 a.m.-3 p.m., at Midlothian Middle School. Sponsored by the Midlothian Junior Women's Club, the event will feature a parade, craft and community booths, entertainment, food, carnival games, moonwalk and silent auction.       The Chesterfield-Colonial Heights Department of Social Services is looking for volunteers to help prepare simple tax returns for low-income families during the upcoming tax season. A site coordinator and quality reviewer are needed as well. The Internal Revenue Service will provide free training for volunteers. The time commitment will be Thursdays, from 4:30-6:30 p.m.
