JTCC theatre students get spooky for Fright Night
      Creepy fun abounds as John Tyler Community College theatre students prepare for Fright Night - two evenings of ghoulishly frightening entertainment. On Oct. 19 and 20, members of the community are invited to take a nightmarish journey through a haunted house as students present a variety of short scary scenes.

Leong named top teacher
      Helene Leong, a fourth-grade teacher at A.M. Davis Elementary School, has been named Teacher of the Year in Virginia in the 12th Annual Wal-Mart and Sam's Club State Teacher of the Year Program. Leong was honored at a special surprise ceremony at the school last week. Her school received a $10,000 grant from the Wal-Mart Foundation in her honor.

      Nashville singer/songwriter Tricia Walker will perform award-winning songs she has written for Faith Hill, Patty Loveless and Alison Krauss in addition to songs she has written with Richmond area cancer survivors at the 7th Annual Say It In A Song concert on Sun., Nov. 4, from 2-4:30 p.m., at the Sheraton Park South Hotel, 9901 Midlothian Tnpk.

Chamber hosts Third Annual 5K Run/Walk
      The Chesterfield County Chamber of Commerce and Village Bank will present the Third Annual Chesterfield Chamber 5K Run/Walk and Children's 1-Mile Run on Sat., Oct. 27, at the Chesterfield Technical Center, 10101 Courthouse Rd. Proceeds will benefit the Chesterfield Police Foundation and the Chesterfield County/Colonial Heights Crime Solvers.
