Dear Editor, I am writing in response to Larry Miller's letter [to the editor in the Jan. 10 issue]. Mr. Miller seems to believe that no one should ever be permitted to change political parties. I wonder if he felt the same level of outrage toward Ronald Reagan or Tom Bliley, both of whom switched to the Republican Party. I am comfortable that, new to the party or not, Will Shewmake is more qualified to represent Chesterfield County than Mr. Loupassi whose residence and political experience are both centered squarely in the city of Richmond. The majority of the 68th district is in Chesterfield County, and to support a candidate who knows nothing about the unique issues facing this rapidly growing suburban county seems to be shortsighted. Will Shewmake's record of service to Midlothian and Chesterfield demonstrates a long standing commitment to our community, and he deserves our support. |
