Hastings deserves better news coverage With great interest, I read your article, "Race for Matoaca's supervisor seat is wide open" [Jan. 24]. I noted editorializing throughout the article: "apparent frontrunner, Steve Elswick ….."(When was that poll done?) In reference to Democrat Bill Hastings, "party support is now in doubt…" (How many Democrats from the Matoaca magisterial district were interviewed to support that allegation?) The article goes on to state that because Don Wilms is "a member of the Democrat's county board of directors" and is considering running, support for Bill Hastings is now in doubt. As a Chesterfield Democrat, I can tell you the organization does not have a board of directors. If we did, would that automatically permit one of the "directors" to be the heir apparent as our candidate? I did appreciate your caption above the three pictures which accompanied the article: Three of the possible contenders. Possible is the operative word! Let me assure you, support for Bill Hastings' candidacy is not in doubt, but growing stronger each day. Of course, I am going to support my husband, but I have an ulterior motive - I live in the Matoaca District, and I want the best representation possible - Bill Hastings! |
