ANNOUNCEMENTS Prevention Services, a division of the Chesterfield County Department of Mental Health Support Services, has relocated to 9842 Lori Road, Suite 101, in the Court Square office complex across from the County Administration Building. The main phone number (768-7800) remains unchanged, and the mailing address is now P.O. Box 92, Chesterfield, VA 23832. The division's staff provides training and consultation on parenting, divorce adjustment and stress management, and does public speaking engagements for interested groups. Susan C. Ward has been appointed as a member at large to the Chesterfield Community Services Board Thomas B. Owens will represent the Dale District on the Committee on the Future. Five Chesterfield County residents have graduated and become Virginia State Troopers. They are Solomon C. Albert, Anthony F. Ilacqua, Michael V. O'Connor, Adam A. Ragsdale and Mark B. Petrini. All have been assigned outside of the county. Liberty Tax Service is collecting used cell phones, iPods and toner cartridges for its Cell Phones for Soldiers program, which helps connect military personnel who are serving overseas with loved ones at home. Donations can be dropped off at any Liberty Tax Service location including the company's newest office at 11063 Hull Street Rd. The Chesterfield Post Office at 10221 Krause Road is hosting a Customer Appreciation Day in its lobby on Mon., Feb. 26 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Postmaster Mike Laffoon, a Chesterfield native and auxiliary police officer, will be available to provide information on postal services. The event will also include light refreshments, giveaways and a raffle. The Chesterfield County Department of Youth Planning and Development is accepting nominations for its annual Outstanding Youth Awards until 5 p.m. on Mar. 23. Nominees must be ages 12-18 and have demonstrated courage, compassion, and/or community or school service. All nominees must be residents of Chesterfield County. Nomination forms are available at all county library branches, middle or high school guidance departments, the lobby of the County Administration Building, located at 9901 Lori Road, the Youth Planning and Development office, located at 9700 Krause Road, or online at www.chesterfield.gov (click on "County Departments," "Youth Planning and Development" and then "Youth Awards Program"). Applications for $62,500 in college scholarships are now available to student members of the Virginia Credit Union. The credit union will award 25 $2,500 scholarships in June to students working toward their first undergraduate college degree. Scholarship winners will be selected based on scholastic achievement, community service and extracurricular activities, hours devoted to work to help with the cost of education, and their response to an essay question. Applications and other eligibility requirements are available online at www.vacu.org. The application deadline is Mar. 30. John Tyler Community College is pleased to announce 510 students made the honors and dean's lists for the fall 2006 semester. Both groups of students have at least 24 credit hours with a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.5 for honors and 3.2 for dean's list. |
