Grass Roots program provides personalized lawn-management plans

The Chesterfield County Extension Office is offering county residents personalized lawnmanagement plans through its Grass Roots program. Residents will learn how to produce healthy turf through step-by-step recommendations, while preventing the application of unnecessary or inappropriate fertilizers, and preserving water quality.

Applications for the 2007 Grass Roots program are being accepted through June 1.

Registration is $20 and includes one soil test, lawn measurement and evaluation by a master gardener, and personalized lawn care recommendations made by an extension services technician.

Additional soil samples are $9 each.

The Grass Roots program has provided more than 3,000 Chesterfield homeowners with strategies for healthier lawns, thereby protecting water quality from excess fertilizers and pesticides.
