County reviews Green at Midlothian Village site plan
By Greg Pearson STAFF WRITER

The Chesterfield County Planning Department is reviewing a 64-acre site plan for the Green at Midlothian Village, located on North Woolridge Road across from the Midlothian YMCA and running almost to Route 60.

Zoning has already been approved for developer Tom Garner of Tak Tent LP to build the neo-urbanism project, which includes 262,400 square feet of retail and 147,000 square feet of office space. There will be some studio apartments above the ground floor offices. The development is also approved for about 254 apartments in the Enclave section and about 150 multifamily residences in the Town section on the northern boundary.

Garner has set aside about 55,000 square feet for a neighborhood grocery store, but it's unknown what grocer will locate there. Ukrop's and Kroger have said the allotted space isn't enough for them. During a presentation for the Western Chesterfield Business Alliance late last month, Garner said he was looking for a number of neighborhood restaurants to become tenants.

The first phase includes a new entrance to the nearby Midlothian Library with patrons entering off North Woolridge through his neighborhood offices after the Coalfield Road entrance is closed. The facade of the library will be changed to tie into the office architecture.

A 450-seat amphitheatre will be a major focus of the development, backing up to a nine-acre lake that doubles as a water control feature to handle runoff. Garner has contributed considerable time, money and land to the nearby Mid-Lothian Mines and the YMCA.
