Kindergarten registration on Apr. 26

Kindergarten registration for the 2007-08 school year will be held at all county elementary schools on Thurs., Apr. 26. Parents of rising kindergarteners should register their children between 9 a.m.-7 p.m. To determine what school to go to for registration, parents may call 748-1666 or visit www.chesterfield.k12.va.us (click on "New Residents" and then "Attendance Areas").

A child must be five years old on or before Sept. 30 this year to be eligible to attend kindergarten. Students must reside in Chesterfield County with a parent or legal guardian to attend Chesterfield County Public Schools. The child should accompany the parent to registration for a brief screening.

Documentation of measles, mumps, rubella (MMR), diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis (DTP) and polio is required for all students. Hepatitis B vaccine is required for students born on or after January 1, 1994, and students entering sixth grade after July 1, 2001. Varicella (chickenpox) vaccine is required for all children born on or after January 1, 1997 who have not already had the disease or the vaccine.

+ a record of a physical examination within the past 12 months.

Each student's Social Security number is requested.

Parents should also bring proof of county residency when registering. Proof of residency can include:

+ a lease for a period of at least one year or deed of a residence or property located in Chesterfield.

+ a contract or lease free of contingencies to occupy a Chesterfield residence within two months of the date of enrollment.
