ANNOUNCEMENTS The Chesterfield County Department of Economic Development is launching new orientation classes for county businesses starting next month. Staff from the Commissioner of the Revenue's Office, Planning Department, Public Safety, Utilities Department and Economic Development will speak during the classes. Topics will include business taxes, Enterprise Zone incentives, and permitting and zoning requirements. The orientation program will be held quarterly from 5:30- 7:30 p.m. on Apr. 19, July 19 and Oct. 18 in the new Community Development Building Multi-Purpose Room, 9800 Government Center Pkwy. Rothell has received a Carnegie Hero Fund Commission medal for saving the life of a 45-year-old man on Mar. 26 last year. The man attempted to commit suicide from a bridge 50 feet above the James River. Rothell sustained injuries during his off-duty rescue but has recovered. C&F Bank is opening a new branch at 4820 West Hundred Rd. in Chester, the seventh for the bank in the Richmond market. Bill Scott will serve as branch manager along with Assistant Branch Manager Libby Brown. Vice President Dave Shaffer will serve as the commercial lending officer. The Lucy Corr Arts Committee recently recognized area artists during a reception at Lucy Corr Village. The event featured watercolors by local artist Eleanor Cox, carved pieces from the James River Wood Carvers and artwork by students from Thomas Dale High and Jacobs Road elementary schools. Plans for a proposed wellness garden, which will include wheelchair-accessible paths, benches and a water feature, were unveiled during the reception. The garden's master plan was donated by Timmons Group of Richmond. It will be located on the grounds of Lucy Corr Village following a capital campaign to raise funds for the project. Getloaded.com, a leading Internet load board for the transportation industry, has hired Robert "Mac" Bullock as director of operations. He will be in charge of operational leadership and direction while managing the company's business goals. Bullock was previously at the McKee Group in Philadelphia, serving as a commercial and residential real estate developer for land acquisition and approvals. Dollar Tree has opened a 10,000-squarefoot store in Winterpock Crossing on Hull Street Road. Dollar Tree has 3,192 stores in 48 states. The Manchester High School band and orchestra will perform at Walt Disney World on Mar. 29-31 during the Third Annual Festival Disney. The festival includes two days of adjudicated performances where ensembles receive valuable written and recorded feedback from nationally recognized music educators. Groups also compete for Festival Disney awards. The Cosby Titan Band earned a "superior" rating at a state concert festival earlier this month. The rating is the highest any band could attain during the festival. The band will perform on Fri, May 18 at 7:30 p.m. in the school's auditorium. Tracy Weldon, a Matoaca High School art teacher, will travel to Leicester, England, to spend two weeks with staff members at Gateway College as part of an annual exchange program. Best Buy at Commonwealth Centre is donating $10,000 to Junior Achievement to be used in Chesterfield schools. Spring Run and Swift Creek elementary schools both have Junior Achievement programs. |
