Background checks for coaches is supported

Dear Editor,

This is in response to K.G. Braun's letter in the Mar. 21 edition. I never thought twice about having to get fingerprinted for my background check. Perhaps that's because coaching is a privilege, not a right, and I have nothing to hide. I wonder what Mr. Braun's real concern is?

I wish it weren't the case that we need to worry about such things, but in this day and age, it only takes one incident to wreak havoc on a county-wide sports program. I'm sure this program of background checks was implemented as a lesson learned from an unfortunate incident somewhere that could have easily been prevented. We need to take all precautions to ensure our children are safe. If a background check drives away someone, then it has served its purpose.
