ANNOUNCEMENTS CJW Medical Center will begin construction on a $29.5 million cancer hospital on its Johnston Willis campus off Midlothian Turnpike in June. CJW Chief Executive Officer Peter Marmerstein and Chief Operations Officer Tracy Stallings of the Johnston Willis campus briefed the Chesterfield Board of Supervisors on the project last week. The cancer hospital will have 24 oncology inpatient suites. "It will have the most advanced technology for cancer treatment in Central Virginia," promised Marmerstein. CJW has 3,200 employees with a payroll of $150 million. The SAFE anti-drug program in Chesterfield County recently received an award for the "exemplary application of the core competencies and essential processes of effective community problem-solving" during a forum in Washington, D.C. SAFE's Executive Director Wayne Frith and Sharyl Adams, youth planning and development's substance abuse prevention specialist, completed the training program at the forum. Kroger will open its newest location in Chester this week. The new store, located in the Breckenridge Shopping Center at 12726 Jefferson Davis Hwy., replaces the South Chalkley Kroger and will employ 95 workers. It features a fuel center, wine cellar, specialty and natural foods sections, pharmacy and more. Del. Frank Hall has announced that he is seeking reelection to the 69th District, which includes some precincts in Chesterfield County. Hall is a businessman and attorney and has served in the House of Delegates for 34 years. A Democrat, Hall serves on the Counties, Cities and Towns Committee, the House Finance and Rules Committee, the Joint Rules Committee and the Joint Health Commission. Ryan M. Eric Newman and Leighton Shank were promoted from developers to senior developers at Getloaded.com, a Chesterfield-based company that operates an Internet load board posting service. Majid Shaban has been named marketing coordinator. Former senior engineer John Bailey has retired after 33 years with the Chesterfield County Utilities Department. HAPPE (Homeless Animal Protection Placement Education), a Chesterfield-based animal rescue group, was recently featured in the Apr. 18 issue of Family Circle magazine. The article focused on HAPPE founder Tracey Crittenden and her group's efforts to find homes for unwanted pets rescued from the Chesterfield Animal Shelter and other metro Richmond shelters. Alexander Richard Pless of Troop 810 has attained the rank of Eagle Scout. Private Daniel R. Glidewell graduated from the Marine Corps Boot Camp at Parris Island, S.C. last month. He earned an expert rifle designation with a score of 221 and achieved a PFT score of 277. Glidewell plans to train in the field of aviation. He is the son of Fred and Mary Glidewell of Midlothian and Kim and Carlton Coleman of Trouteville, and is a 2005 graduate of Midlothian High School. Former Clover Hill High School student Steven Cody was recently accepted by Princeton University and will play football there this fall. He was also recruited by Harvard University. Cody is the son of Mike and Brenda Cody of Brandermill, and currently attends the Governor's Academy. |
