Hamlin returns to Southside Speedway for charity event

Chesterfield native, former Southside Speedway driver and NASCAR's Nextel Cup 2006 Rookie of the Year Denny Hamlin will drive in the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Late Model Sportsman 175 lap benefit race at the Southside Speedway on Thurs., May 3. Hamlin will be in town that weekend to compete in the Busch and Cup races at Richmond International Speedway on May 4-5.

He will drive a Late Model Sportsman Chevy Monte Carlo #20 entry, owned by Ron Roberts of R.J. Roberts Painting and sponsored by Getloaded.com, Cindy Shumaker State Farm Insurance, Capital Electric and Roy Hendricks Muffler and Automotive.

Advance tickets for the May 3 event will be sold starting at 3 p.m. on the day of the race. Ticket prices are $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and those with a military ID, and $5 for children ages 7-12. The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation will receive $2 for each adult ticket sold.

Spectator gates will open at 5 p.m. with qualifying time trials slated to start at 6 p.m. The Mozely Rose band will provide live music prior to the 7:30 p.m. start of the MACKA Champ Kart preliminary event followed by the 175 lap feature.
