Cosby high school Titan band hosts first concert

The first annual concert of the Cosby High School Titan Band will be held on Fri., May 18 at 7:30 p.m. in the Cosby Theater. This show will be a Hollywood-styled production that promises to be a memorable evening for the entire community, and will include a celebrity guest master of ceremonies, two professional soloists and a patriotic finale.

Mike Goldberg from WTVR-6 in Richmond will serve as the guest Master of Ceremonies for the evening. A wide variety of musical styles will be covered by the band including "For the New Day Arisen" by Chesterfield County teacher Steven Barton, the exciting "Bacchanale" by Camille Saint- Saens, "America the Beautiful" by Samuel A. Ward, with guest narration by Cosby Assistant Principal Michael Gill, "Firedance" from the Broadway smash hit Riverdance, and the bands' patriotic finale featuring the service songs of the Armed Forces of the United States. Two professional soloists, Dr. Ross Walter, professor of low brass studies at Virginia Commonwealth University, will perform "The Carnival of Venice" on euphonium and Heather Glynn, chorus director at Cosby High School, will sing the big-band styled "They Can't Take That Away From Me" with the band. The band will also present two of their special awards during the show, and the band's VBODA plaques for its ratings at the state marching festival in October and the recent state concert festival will be presented to the band as well.
