Teens charged in knife fight

Three Community High School teens were charged with disorderly conduct, and one was also charged with malicious wounding after a fight that started in the boys' restroom at 7 a.m. April 30. It spilled over to the clinic where the wounded boy was taken when a friend of the victim came in and threatened the boy who used the knife.

The victim was taken to VCU medical Center where he received stitches on the side of his head. Police are investigating where the student got the steak knife and what precipitated the fight.

New check enforcement program

Commonwealth's attorneys are instituting a three-part program to fight bad checks. The bad check writers can resolve the offense without facing a possible criminal record by making full restitution to the victims and paying a service fee to cover costs incurred as a result of the bad check. They must also pay the cost of the program and complete an educational class that focuses on financial management.

This program deals with checks not honored because of insufficient funds, closed account or no account. Check forgeries or counterfeit checks are referred to the police, and the offenders are prosecuted.
