GOP to select Matoaca supervisor candidate

Chesterfield Republicans will select the party nominee for Matoaca District supervisor on June 5 from 5-8 p.m. Caucus voting will occur at Spring Run Elementary School, 13901 Spring Run Rd., and the Phillips Volunteer Fire Station, 10630 River Rd.

Republicans will choose between Kevin Salminen and Mark Tubbs. No party pledge is required.

Man killed in drive-by shooting

A man was killed on May 20 during a driveby shooting on Chippenham Parkway.

According to police, Nicolas Moreno- Pantoja, 24, of the 6400 block of Planet Road, and his passenger were traveling north on Chippenham Parkway near the Belmont Road exit shortly after 2 a.m. in a blue 1979 Chevy Malibu when a dark SUV pulled alongside the vehicle and shots were fired. The passenger in the Malibu was able to steer the vehicle to the side of the road and was not injured.

Moreno-Pantoja was taken to VCU Medical 5102 The 1-Randy Helping Center where he later died around 7:50 p.m. Police believe the incident may have stemmed from an earlier dispute between the victim and unknown Hispanic males at El Quetzal Restaurant, 2615 Broad Rock Blvd. in Richmond.

Police continue their investigation into this homicide. Anyone with information should call the Chesterfield County Police Department at 748-1251 or Crime Solvers at 748-0660.

Motorcyclist is critically injured

Chesterfield County Police are investigating a single-vehicle crash that critically injured a motorcyclist. The crash occurred in the 700 block of Courthouse Road at about 6:48 p.m. on May 20.

Police said a 2007 Hyosung motorcycle was being driven north on Courthouse Road when it veered off the roadway and struck a culvert. The motorcyclist was taken to VCU Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. A passenger sustained minor injuries.
