Goodwill opens another Richmond area store

Goodwill of Central Virginia opened a nearly 10,000-square-foot store last Saturday at 1211 Alverser Dr. The facility combines workforce development services, donation collection, processing and retail operations in one location. A Community Employment Center will open to the public in mid-July.

The store is open daily with electronics, toys, books, housewares, furniture, home accents and clothing. Jobseekers

will be able to access job-seeking skills training, computer training and many other programs at no cost.

Outlook Pointe at Chesterfield has changed its name to Elmcroft at Chesterfield. The assisted living and Alzheimer's care facility remains at 1000 Twinridge Ln. off Midlothian Turnpike.

Virginia Farm Bureau Insurance Services has hired Jeff Chiott as an insurance agent in its Chesterfield County office. Chiott previously served 21 years in retail management.

B. Dalton Bookseller will host author A.W. G. Coleman from noon-2 p.m. on June 16 at Chesterfield Towne Center for the release of his new book, "Quest of the Seal Bearer; Book 2, The Five Jewels."

A Rockwood Park tennis court has been named in honor of Frank McDavid, a member of the Chesterfield County's Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee for more than 13 years and PRAC chairman for the past two years. With 25 years of experience with the U.S. Court and Track Builders Association, he has been able to assist the county in improving its tennis facilities, including the one at Rockwood Park.

Four of the six teens receiving Verizon scholarships of up to $20,000 are residents of Chesterfield County. Each student will receive $5,000 annually toward his or her college expenses from the Verizon Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Verizon Communications. The parents of the children are employed by Verizon. They are: Kate Foco of Midlothian, a graduate of Midlothian High School and daughter of employee Wayne Foco, who plans to attend North Carolina State University;

Hannah Harris of Midlothian, a graduate of Maggie L. Walker Governor's School and daughter of Jane Harris, who plans to attend the University of Virginia; Ashley Kern of Chester, a graduate of Thomas Dale High School and daughter of employee Larry Yeary, who plans to attend Liberty University; and Michael Shrewsbury of Midlothian, a graduate of Midlothian High School and son of Roger Shrewsbury, who plans to attend Southern Virginia University. Verizon's scholarship program selects recipients based on financial need, academic achievement and extracurricular activities. The scholarships are for high school seniors who plan to attend an accredited four-year institution.

The U-12 and U-14 teams of the Midlothian Youth Soccer League won the Mid-Atlantic Coastal Kickfest held in Virginia Beach late last month. The U-12 Cowgirls had a 4-0 record, taking their third Kickfest championship in four years. The U-14 Cowgirls, playing up an age group in the U-15 All Star bracket, had a 3-0-1 record. With a 1-1 tie in the final match, the game had to go to double overtime plus 10 penalty kicks.
