Police offer crime prevention tips to prevent purse thefts

The Chesterfield County Police Department's Crime Prevention Section is urging citizens to take preventive measures against theft. Police received 26 reports of purses and wallets that were stolen while victims shopped in area grocery and department stores in May.

These thefts occurred at businesses throughout the county. Most victims left their purses and wallets unattended. Police offer the following crime prevention tips to avoid becoming a victim:

+ Do not leave your purse or wallet unattended in a shopping cart.

+ Ensure that you keep your purse or wallet with you at all times.

+ Avoid carrying multiple credit cards.

+ Avoid carrying large amounts of cash.

+ Remain alert.

+ Report suspicious activity to police and/or store management immediately.

If you have information about these thefts, please contact the Chesterfield County Police Department at 748-1251 or Crime Solvers at 748-0660.
