Candidates and registrar to speak at CCDC meeting

Chesterfield County Democratic Committee monthly meeting, 7 p.m., Wed., Aug. 1, Clover Hill Library, 6701 Deer Run Dr. Chesterfield's General Registrar Larry Haake will be a speaker and candidates Jim Holland (Dale supervisor) Dan Gecker (Midlothian supervisor) and Alex McMurtrie (State Senate, 11th District) will make brief presentations and be available for questions. Pilates exercise class, 12:30-1:30 p.m., weekly through Aug. 30, Bensley Community Building, 2900 Drewry's Bluff Rd. Pilates strengthens the abdomen, lower back and hips. Cost is $15. Cancer workshop, 6:30-8:30 p.m., CJW Medical Center, Johnston Willis campus, 1401 Johnston Willis Dr. This workshop is designed to help women cope with the appearance-related side effects of cancer treatment. Volunteer cosmetologists will conduct a program on skincare and makeup as well as how to use wigs, turbans and scarves. Night Hike, 8:30-10 p.m., Rockwood Nature Center, 3401 Courthouse Rd. Hike through the forest and watch for nocturnal activity. Bring a flashlight and wear sturdy shoes. For ages 6 and older. VMFA Summer Interlude Concert series, 3 p.m., (also Aug. 12, Aug. 19 and Aug. 26), Bon Air Presbyterian Church, 9201 W. Huguenot Rd. The Richmond Chamber Players will perform selections from Clara Schumann, Robert Schumann and Johannes Brahams. The guest artist is tenor Tracy Wilborn. Tickets for the series are $56 (museum members, seniors, students, $48). Single tickets, if available, are $16 (museum members, seniors, students, $14, students under 18 free.) They will speak on leadership, including trust leadership, good and poor management, mobbing, zone of indifference and managing by grace.

60 Hikes within 60 Miles: Richmond, 7-8 p.m., Chester Library, 11800 Centre St. Take a virtual hike through some of Virginia's most beautiful and historic settings. Author Nathan Lott will narrate a slideshow based on his book, "60 Hikes within 60 Miles: Richmond," recounting his experiences on the trail, and will offer recommendations on the best hikes for families, birdwatchers, serious hikers and history buffs. Chesterfield County Chamber of Commerce monthly luncheon, 11 a.m.-1 p.m., Brandermill Country Club, 3700 Brandermill Pkwy. Mike Ogilvie of Pendulum, Inc. will facilitate Speed Networking. At registration, participants will receive a "dance card" of table rotation instructions. Each person at the table gives a one-minute commercial and then rotates to a different table with different faces. Bring lots of business cards. Advanced registration is required by Aug. 6.
