Supervisors rushed to appoint one of their own Dear Editor, Well, in one last demonstration of its arrogance, it came as no surprise that the lame duck board rushed to appoint one of its own before the incoming board could exercise its own judgment. As one of its first actions, the new board should consider a thorough review of that "selection process" to determine for itself if it desires to work with Mr. [Jay] Stegmaier and the rest of [County Administrator] Lane Ramsey's staff. I think the voters are speaking loud and clear that it's time for new direction and leadership in county administration, so let's clean house. After that issue is resolved, I'd like to suggest the new board commission an "Employee Productivity Assessment" with the goal of reducing census by 10 percent immediately and instituting a policy where the bottomperforming 5 percent are terminated annually. Not only does such a policy help control salaries [and pension liabilities], but world-class companies, such as GE and Honeywell, have shown that it significantly improves productivity. Lane Ramsey's "welfare state" needs to be shown the door. Alan Francario The Highlands |
