5K Run/Walk and Children's Run to benefit police

The Chesterfield County Chamber of Commerce invites the public to participate in the Third Annual 5K Run/Walk and Children's 1-Mile Run, presented by Village Bank. The race will take place on Sat., Oct. 27, at 8 a.m., at the L.C. Bird High School/Chesterfield County Fairgrounds, 10301 Courthouse Rd. Proceeds will benefit the Chesterfield County Police Foundation and the Chesterfield County/Colonial Heights Crime Solvers.

Runners and walkers ages 5 and up are encouraged to participate. Children will compete in a 1-mile racing event. For runners and walkers, the 5K Run/Walk USATF certified course is flat and fast.

Become a team captain and recruit at least four registered participants to run with you. Team categories are corporate, all male, all female and co-ed. Teams can have up to eight members but only the top four times will be used to determine team category winners.

The entry fee is $20 for the 5K event and $15 for the 1-mile event until October 25. Entry fee on race day is $25 for the 5K event and $20 for the 1-mile event.

Visit www.chesterfieldchamber.com for a registration form. Entry fee and registration can be mailed to: Running Kids, P.O. Box 3593, Chester, VA 23831. Online registration is also available. Go to www.active.com and type in "Chesterfield chamber" in the "Find an Event" search window. Race day registration is available from 6:30-7:30 a.m. only.

All participants will receive an event t-shirt, premium sponsor items, sponsor gift certificates and coupons. There is no t-shirt guarantee for those who register after Oct. 12. Trophies and medals will be awarded to winners and prize money for top finishers.

Race packets for registered runners may be picked up on Fri., Oct. 26, from 12-6 p.m. at Village Bank's Courthouse branch, 6551 Centralia Rd. (in the Chesterfield Meadows Shopping Plaza) and on race day, Oct. 27, from 6:30-7:30 a.m. at the race site.
