Program offers driving advice for teens For the second year, Come Home Alive will offer safe driving information for Chesterfield teens and their parents. With the goal of reducing car crashes and saving lives through education and parent awareness, the program brings together parents, students, school officials, law enforcement representatives and community members. Chesterfield County Public Schools and the Chesterfield County Police Department worked cooperatively to bring the program to the county. Come Home Alive stresses the influence parents have on teen drivers. Topics include coaching tips for parents, an overview of the driver education curriculum, traffic laws governing teen drivers, insurance and safety reminders. Tenth-grade students and parents are the main focus, but students in other grades and their parents are also welcome. Come Home Alive sessions will be offered at the following locations beginning at 7 p.m.: Oct. 1 at Clover Hill High School; Oct. 3 at Midlothian; Oct. 8 at Monacan; Oct. 10 at L.C. Bird (includes Community High); Oct. 15 at James River; Oct. 18 at Meadowbrook; Oct. 22 at Thomas Dale; Oct. 29 at Cosby; Nov. 1 at Manchester; and Nov. 8 at Matoaca. Come Home Alive is funded through a $10,000 grant from the Allstate Foundation. |
