County celebrates Active Aging Week

The Chesterfield Partnership for Successful Aging is celebrating Active Aging Week this week. In recognition of this international event, the county is offering free activities throughout the week in an effort to promote healthy, active lifestyles among seniors. Activities include:

Wed., Sept. 26

Sample classes, 8:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m., Chester Baptist Church, 4713 School St., Chester. Experience what the Shepherd¹s Center of Chesterfield has to offer. For more information, call 706-6689.

Tai Chi class, 10-10:50 a.m., Chester Baptist Church, 4713 School St., Chester. Learn beginning movements of this gentle martial art.

Bridge/canasta, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Midlothian YMCA, 737 Coalfield Rd. For more information, call Susan Clark, 379-5668.

Choosing a Healthy Future, 10:30 a.m.- noon, Midlothian Library, 521 Coalfield Rd. Dr. Elliot Eisenburg of the Dominion Chiropractic Clinic will discuss how the choices you make can positively influence your future. For more information, contact Judy Jones, 751-4135.

Success Over Stress, 9-10:30 a.m., Bon Secours Cancer Institute at St. Francis Medical Center, 14051 St. Francis Blvd. Includes lecture and relaxation exercises. Call 594- 7806 for more information.

Thurs., Sept. 27

Discover Chesterfield walking club, 9 a.m., Shelter 3, Harry G. Daniel Park at Ironbridge, 6000 Whitepine Rd. Explore the county's parks and make new friends during this walk led by staff from the county's department of parks and recreation.

Health and Informational Fair, 10 a.m.-1 p.m., Lifelong Learning Institute, 13801 Westfield Rd., Midlothian. More than 20 vendors featured including Signa Tours, Hospice of Virginia, Meals on Wheels, the Virginia Department for the Aging, Access Chesterfield and more.

Fri., Sept. 28

Water fitness, 10-11 a.m., Chester YMCA, 3011 W. Hundred Rd. Call 748-9622 for more information.

Move a Mile, 1-3 p.m., Chester YMCA, 3011 W. Hundred Rd. A one-mile walk on the YMCA¹s indoor track. Call 748-9622 for more information.
