Sign up for geocaching course

Learn how to become a modern-day treasure hunter during a geocaching course hosted by the county's parks and recreation department on Sept. 29, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., at the Rockwood Park Nature Center, 3401 Courthouse Rd. Geocaching is a popular hobby across the globe in which people use Geographic Positioning System (GPS) tools to hide and locate prizes, or "geocaches."

As part of the course, members of the Central Virginia Geocaching Association will discuss the different types of geocaches and how to use GPS equipment. They'll also lead program participants through Rockwood Park to find some hidden geocaches. There will be extra GPS units to share.

The program is for ages 10 and older. An adult must accompany children under 16. The cost is $6 per person. To register by phone, call 748-1623. In-person registration is also available by visiting the parks and recreation department, located at 6801 Mimms Loop.
