County police and Shred It® protect your identity

In celebration of Crime Prevention Month, Shred It®, a national document destruction company, and the Chesterfield Police Department will hold a document shredding event at Chesterfield Towne Center on Sat., Oct. 27, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Citizens may bring up to four boxes (no larger than 10" x 13" x 18") of personal documents to be shredded onsite.

The event is part of Shred Identity Theft, a free, metro-wide, crime prevention campaign developed by the Central Virginia Crime Prevention Association in collaboration with the Henrico, Chesterfield and Richmond police departments, the Hanover Sheriff's Office and Shred It®.

Identity theft is a growing problem, so citizens are urged to clean out sensitive documents that need to be disposed of and bring them to this shredding event. Identity theft can wreak havoc in a person's life by ruining a person's credit or wiping out entire bank accounts, and it can take months or even years to clear one's name and financial records.

For more information on the Shred Identity Theft Program, call Sgt. Deringer, 674-7006 ext. 108.
